1.RVDS1: 4 hours Kampala City Tour
Pick-up from your hotel in Kampala - drive to Kololo summit for the panoramic view of Kampala City – only the horizons are the limits. Descend to the Uganda Museum on Kamwokya hill to have a close encounter with Uganda’s history and culture. Continue to the Bahai Temple surrounded by beauty and tranquillity. Visit Makerere University, the African symbol of education. Further west, you will visit the Kasubi Tombs, the eternal resting place of the kabaka (kings) of the legendary Buganda Kingdom. Call at the Namirembe and Lubaga cathedrals as well the Old Kampala mosque – a meeting corner of faiths and civilisations. Visit one of the numerous souvenir shops and markets around the city. At leisure, head back to your hotel.

2. RVDS2: 1 day visit to Jinja
Pick-up from your hotel – drive eastwards. Branch off at Namugongo for a visit to the Uganda Martyrs’ shrine and get to know about Uganda’s first encounter with Christianity. Drive through Lugazi sugar and tea plantations and on to Mabira – a real jungle of a natural rainforest. Visit the source of the mighty Nile, where the Mediterranean-bound journey begins. Continue to Bujagali falls to catch up with the Nile once more at 6 km from the source. Lunch in Jinja. After lunch drive back to your hotel in Kampala.

3. RVDS3: 4 days to Lake Mburo National Park &
Village Uganda


Day One: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport. A member of staff of Rift Valley Discovery Safaris will meet you. Transfer to your hotel in Kampala – about 40 km away. Depending on your arrival time, a complementary sight tour of Kampala City is optional. Overnight in Kampala.

Day Two: Pick-up from your hotel. Take the Masaka Road exit due west. Drive through the rounded-top Buganda hills evenly endowed with papyrus swamps. First stopover at the equator for a snap with a foot in either hemispheres and a glimpse at what Ugandan craftspeople can do at the adjacent souvenir shops. Continue through the infamous Katonga Bridge, entrenched in the people’s minds for its notoriety during the past wars – more war memorabilia are an open museum spread along the Trans-African Highway.

Your guide will recommend worthwhile stopping spots to stretch your legs and enjoy the local highway refreshments of mchomo and softies. After an authentic organic breakfast, drive through Ishaka Township on to the Trans-African Highway en route to the splendour of the Great Rift Valley. View, the Igara tea estates before being consumed by the unequalled Bunyaruguru hills; gifted by nature by the numerous crater lakes. Remember to pick up a few bananas for your unexpected friends at a nearby location. No views are greater that at Kyambura where you will commence your descent into the Rift Valley carpeted by the sea like Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to over 100 mammal species and over 606 bird species. The hunt is now on to view a variety of game – Uganda kobs, buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks, warthogs, elephants and the long promised friends – the baboons together with much other wildlife. At Kazinga Channel, turn left and head towards Mweya Safari Lodge. Lunch at the hotel. After lunch walk down to the Channel for a launch trip that will take you very close to a variety of game quenching their thirst as well as the permanent residents – the hippos. At one spot you won’t believe your eyes by the incredible number of thousands of birds living in harmony. Upon return to the Lodge, drive on to Katwe salt lake where human endeavour survives on nature-given resources. View flamingos on a nearby crater and enjoy a late game drive. Dinner and overnight at your selected lodge in the park.

Day Four: The most frenetic but worthwhile part of your safari. Very early wake-up call to embark on a game drive. Follow the guidance from the game rangers’ previous sighting of the elusive game, particularly the hyenas, the lions, the leopards and many others. After the selected circuits, head back to your hotel for a late breakfast. After breakfast gear up for the drive back to Kampala marked by stopovers to kill off fatigue while enjoying the revitalising countryside. Arrive back in Kampala late evening.

At Ishasha camp drive on to the River Ishasha dividing Uganda and Congo. At the River you can view hippos at close range. All morning spent on game drives. Lunch at the camp. After lunch drive at leisure back to your lodge in the northern sector with plenty of diversions to view more and more wildlife. Enjoy a relaxed evening at the bar/gardens of your lodge. After lunch embark on the real countryside drive as you rub shoulders with the authentic Africa remote landscape towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the home of the unique Mountain Gorillas. Dinner and overnight in the park.

Day Four: Spend the whole morning tracking the Mountain Gorillas and enjoying the breezes of nature still untouched by human endeavours. After lunch prepare for a drive northwards towards QENP, home to over 100 mammal species and over 606 bird species. Drive through the border trading centres of Butogota and Kihiihi on to Ishasha, the southern sector of QENP. View game on your way to the camp. Dinner and overnight at Ishasha camp.

Day Five: Early morning game drive to catch the big cats as they retire to their dens. Return to the camp for breakfast. After breakfast go on further circuits to view buffaloes, Uganda kobs, the tree climbing lions and many others. Head towards the northern sector via Katunguru crossing on the Kazinga Channel. Turn left and head towards Mweya Safari Lodge. Lunch at the hotel. After lunch walk down to the Channel for a launch trip that will take you very close to a variety of game quenching their thirst as well as the permanent residents – the hippos. Rub shoulders with the legendary Mountains of the Moon with its permanent glacier-capped peaks as you drive past Kasese Town and on to Fort Portal, the dying section of the western arm of the Great Rift Valley. Continue to Kibale National Park, the home of the chimpanzee and a variety of other wildlife. Spend the rest of the day tracking the primates and enjoying the gifts of nature. Overnight at Ndali Lodge.

Day Six: After breakfast head back to Kampala through Mubende and Mityana Towns; arriving back in Kampala in the late afternoon, back to your hotel.

8. RVDS8: 4 days to Murchison Falls National Park
Day One: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport. A member of staff of Rift Valley Discovery Safaris will meet you. Transfer to your hotel in Kampala – about 40 km away. Depending on your arrival time, a complementary sight tour of Kampala City is optional. Overnight in Kampala.

Day Two: After breakfast leave Kampala and head towards Murchison Falls National Park. Take a break to view the spectacular Nakasongola Rocks. Lunch at Masindi before driving on to the park. Visit the magnificent falls where the mighty Nile forces itself through a narrow passage before dropping about 50 metres below. After this breathtaking stop drive on while viewing a variety of game. Relax and enjoy the evening at Paara Safari Lodge.

Day Three: Breakfast and then embark on a game drive in the northern section of the park. The wildlife to watch out for includes elephants, giraffes, waterbucks, hartebeest, lions, oribis, as well as a range of savannah birds. Lunch at the lodge. After lunch enjoy a launch trip that will take you to the foot of the waterfalls. On the way you will view hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, elephants, among others. After the launch trip, prepare for a drive back to Kampala where you will arrive at your hotel late evening.

9. RVDS9: 11 days to MFNP, Kibale Forest National Park, Semliki National Park, QENP, Kitagata Hot Springs
Day One: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport. A member of staff of Rift Valley Discovery Safaris will meet you. Transfer to your hotel in Kampala – about 40 km away. Depending on your arrival time, a complementary sight tour of Kampala City is optional. Overnight in Kampala.

Day Two: After breakfast leave Kampala and head towards Murchison Falls National Park. Take a break to view the spectacular Nakasongola Rocks. Lunch at Masindi before driving on to the park. Visit the magnificent falls where the mighty Nile forces itself through a narrow passage before dropping about 50

metres below. After this breathtaking stop drive on while viewing a variety of game. Relax and enjoy the evening at Paara Safari Lodge.

 

Day Three: Breakfast and then embark on a game drive in the northern section of the park. The wildlife to watch out for includes elephants, giraffes, waterbucks, hartebeest, lions, oribis and many others as well as a range of savannah birds. Lunch at the lodge. After lunch enjoy a launch trip that will take you to the foot of the waterfalls. On the way you will view hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, elephants, among others. After the launch trip, prepare for a drive to Masindi Town. Evening and overnight at Masindi Hotel

Day Four: After breakfast, embark on a long drive to Fort Portal – stopovers at historical sites to include the Bunyoro Kings burial sites among others. Visit the burial sites of the Bakama of Toro Kingdom before retiring for overnight at the Mountains of the Moon Hotel in Fort Portal.

Day Five: After breakfast, drive to Kibale National Park, the home of the chimpanzee and a variety of other wildlife. Spend the whole day tracking the primates and enjoying the gifts of nature. Evening at leisure and overnight at Ndali Lodge.

Day Six: After breakfast head westwards to Semliki National Park. Cut across the Rwenzori foothills as you open onto the scenic beauty of the national park with the distant views of the meandering Semliki River and Congo beyond the horizons. Enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside endowed with birdlife and lush vegetation. Stop at the Sempaya hot springs to ponder the splendour of nature. Packed lunch in this beauty green. After lunch return to Fort Portal for dinner and overnight.

Day Seven: After breakfast, head southwards along the western arm of the Great Rift Valley, past Kasese Town before entering the enviable Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to over 100 mammal species and over 606 bird species. View a variety of wildlife, including elephants, Uganda kob, waterbucks, bushbucks and warthogs before arriving at Mweya Safari Lodge. Lunch at the Lodge. After lunch enjoy a launch trip along the Kazinga Channel connecting Lakes George and Edward as you view more wildlife – hippos, hundreds of bird species, elephants, waterbucks and buffaloes - all around the Mweya peninsula. Upon return to the shore either have the rest of the evening at leisure at the bar by the poolside or visit Katwe salt lake. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge.

Day Eight: The search continues for nature’s secrets – early morning drive to Ishasha, QENP southern sector. Sight the nocturnal hunters (lions, leopards and hyenas) as they head back to their den. Cross the Kazinga Channel at Katunguru. Turn right towards Ishasha, by passing the well laid out hippo pool with frequent sighting of baboons. Packed breakfast on the way. Upon entry to Ishasha, prepare to view a variety of game – buffaloes, Uganda kob and follow the tracks in search for the famous tree-climbing lions. At Ishasha camp drive on to the River Ishasha dividing Uganda and Congo. At the River you can view hippos at close range. All morning spent on game drives. Lunch at the camp. After lunch drive at leisure back to your lodge in the northern sector with plenty of diversions to view more and more wildlife. Enjoy a relaxed evening at the bar/gardens of your lodge. Overnight at the lodge.

Day Nine: Early morning game drive to track hyenas, lions, leopards and several other game. Return to your lodge for breakfast. Then drive due east towards Kyambura escarpment, and on through the hilly Bunyaruguru endowed with crater lakes. Go past Igara tea estates. At Ishaka, turn right and head towards Kitagata hot springs. Enjoy nature-given hot baths, which carry healing components. Packed lunch by the hot springs. At leisure drive back to Kashenyi-Bwoma. You will get a feel of real Uganda village life while you stroll through the village (crafts) shops. Tasting the local gin and banana wine is highly recommended for those who can. Well in time, walk back to your accommodation point where you will enjoy the unspoiled hospitality – goat roasting and plantain/potato baking in the open bad-weed ovens. Complementary country entertainment and story telling are optional. Retire to your “nest” whenever you can’t resist sleep and fatigue anymore!

Day Ten: No wake-up alarm clocks. Be nature-driven and get up at leisure. Take a stroll through the village roads to wave good-bye to these lovely folks before a healthy breakfast and boarding for a drive back to Kampala with leg stretching, lunch and souvenir stopovers along the way. You will drive through the towns of Mbarara and Masaka. Drop-off at your hotel in Kampala later in the day.

Day Two: Pick-up from your hotel. Take the Masaka Road exit due west. Drive through the rounded-top Buganda hills evenly endowed with papyrus swamps. First stopover at the equator for a snap with a foot in either hemispheres and a glimpse at what Ugandan craftspeople can do at the adjacent souvenir shops. Continue through the infamous Katonga Bridge, entrenched in the people’s minds for its notoriety during the past wars – more war memorabilia are an open museum spread along the Trans-African Highway. Your guide will recommend worthwhile stopping spots to stretch your legs and enjoy the local highway refreshments of mchomo and softies.

After Lyantonde Town, start enjoying the interminable undulating Ankore hills that give way to Lake Mburo National Park, the home of over 68 different mammals and a variety of bird species and reptiles; the natural habitat of the impala, zebra, eland, warthogs, a variety of monkeys, buffaloes, Roan antelope, hyenas, jackals, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, sitatunga antelopes, black and yellow papyrus gonalek, topis and the adjacent majestic long-horned cattle linked to the mysterious Chwezi dynasties. Enjoy a game drive up to Lake Mburo where you will have packed lunch; shared with nature – the native monkeys, while they entertain you, free of charge, with their acrobatic skills! After lunch complete the game drive circuit amidst nature’s plenitude and game. Drive westwards through Mbarara town on to Kashenyi-Bwoma, the authentic Ugandan village concept. You will feel the warmth of these hospitable country folks while you stroll through the village (crafts) shops, where for the first time you will get a feel of real Uganda village life. Lunch at Kabale Town. After lunch drive on towards Kisoro while enjoying this scenic beauty of challenging hills, crested crane filled valleys, lake Bunyonyi and the bamboo forests. You will soon be astounded by the beauty of the views of the triplets volcanoes of Muhavura, Mgahinga and Sabinyo. Evening and overnight at leisure in Kisoro.

Day Four: After an early breakfast head towards Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, the home of the Mountain Gorillas. Lunch in the park. Spend the rest of the day tracking the Mountain Gorillas and enjoying the breezes of nature still untouched by human endeavours, as evidenced by the lush tropical vegetation. Dinner and overnight in the park.

Day Five: After breakfast, prepare for a drive northwards towards QENP, home to over 100 mammal species and over 606 bird species. Drive through the border trading centres of Butogota and Kihiihi on to Ishasha, the southern sector of QENP. View game on your way to the camp. Dinner and overnight at Ishasha camp.

Day Six: Early morning game drive to catch the big cats as they retire to their dens. Return to the camp for breakfast. After breakfast go on further circuits to view buffaloes, topis, Uganda kobs, the tree climbing lions and many others. Head towards the northern sector via Katunguru crossing on the Kazinga Channel. Turn left and head towards Mweya Safari Lodge. Lunch at the hotel. After lunch walk down to the Channel for a launch trip that will take you very close to a variety of game quenching their thirst as well as the permanent residents – the hippos. At one spot you won’t believe your eyes by the incredible number of thousands of birds living in harmony. Upon return to the Lodge, drive on to Katwe salt lake where human endeavour survives on nature-given resources. View flamingos on a nearby crater and enjoy a late game drive. Dinner and overnight at your selected lodge in the park.

Day Seven: After breakfast, follow the tips from the game rangers in search for a variety of game – Uganda kobs, buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks, warthogs, elephants and a lot more game. Follow the numerous circuits in the park before returning to the lodge for lunch. After lunch walk down to the Channel for an optional launch trip or enjoy a relaxed afternoon in the swimming pool. Dinner and overnight at your selected lodge in the park.

11. RVDS11 - 11 days Rwenzori National Park

Day One: Arrival at Entebbe International Airport.  A member of staff of Rift Valley Discovery Safaris will meet you.  Transfer to your hotel in Kampala – about 40 km away.  Depending on your arrival time, a complementary sight tour of Kampala City is optional.  Overnight in Kampala. 

Day Two: Leave Kampala and drive to the foothills of Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Margherita.
Day Three: After breakfast, transfer to Nyakalengija located at about 1650 metres ready to embark on the mountaineering experience. Hike along the Mubuku River as you head towards Nyabitaba hut at 2650 metres for dinner and overnight.

Day Four: After breakfast, start the head towards the Kurt Sharfer Bridge on River Mubuku, arriving at the Nyamuleju hut with views of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke on to open grounds with lobelia and heath moss forest as you approach the John Matte hut standing at 3415 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Five: After breakfast, walk through lobelias and heath trees on the ascent to the Bigo Bog and enviable layout of lobelias and giant groundsels; bypassing Lake Bujuku. Continue to the Cooking Pot rock shelter shortly before getting to Bujuku hut at 3960 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Six: The day will take you to the alpine vegetation of giant groundsels and lobelia as you are set to reach Mount Victoria and Mount Speke situated at 4890 metres. Enjoy the views of Savoia and Elena glaciers before cutting across the Scott Elliott pass and on to Elena hut at 4430 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Seven: After breakfast embark on the conquest of the snow-characterised Alexander peak situated at 5092 metres as a final springboard to overrun the highest peak, Margherita, situated at 5109 metres. The entire world is at your feet! A descent to 4020 metres will take you to Lake Kitandara’s Kitandara hut for dinner and overnight.
Day Eight: After breakfast, embark on a major descent begins towards Freshfield Pass with views of the Congo, finally coming to Guy Yeoman hut at 3260 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Nine: After breakfast follow the River Mubuku as you re-unite with the original trail close to River Bujuku as you head towards Nyabitaba hut at 2650 metres for dinner and overnight.
Day Ten: After an early breakfast and a 2-3-hour descent, you are back on earth at Nyakalengija to reconnect with your lowland transport. Drive on to Kampala to arrive late afternoon.
